The past twelve months have been a period of great change for colleges in Scotland. They have had to deal with a reducing budget, while preparing for a radical re-organisation of the sector into 13 regions. Through the 'Opportunities for All' policy they also have a key role in addressing the issue of youth unemployment. During this period, the Scottish Government commissioned a review of college governance by Professor Russel Griggs OBE. Whilst it is not yet clear how influential this will be in the formation of the new regional boards, a greater Government role seems likely in setting the strategic direction of the sector. |
